Stile al Concorso

From the beginnings of Concours d’Élégance, horse-drawn coaches, and then cars, have been inextricably linked with fashion. And as the name suggests, elegance is a key part of attending a concours—dressing up being very concours. (Car owners often arrive in outfits that match the style and vintage of their magnificent machines).

Central to any wardrobe decision, must be the weather. A late spring day in Rome is as about as good as it can get. April is known as a ‘Goldilocks month’—not too hot and not too cold. Although, should the weather become inclement, you might want to bring a pashmina or wrap. Likewise, a hat to protect you from the sun is advisable.

In Italy, everyone naturally dresses up for an occasion. Think exclusive garden-party style. Gentlemen should be ‘suited and booted’, a linen suit or tailored jacket, with the option of a tie or cravat. Ladies this is your chance to wear that grand hat.

Footwear is an important consideration. Please bear in mind that you could be on your feet for some time, so comfort needs to be a priority, and there are gravel paths, which are not the best surfaces for stiletto heels.
